Das ehemalige Wachengebäude wurde 1729–30 vom Stadtbaumeister Johann Jakob Samhaimer erbaut. Im Zweiten Weltkrieg zerstört, wurde es zunächst bis 1954 vereinfacht aufgebaut; erst 1968 wurde es originalgetreu neu aufgebaut und wiedereröffnet.
